Surveying and Monitoring
survey' v.t scrutinise; measure, map
mon'itor n. one who gives warning or advice
Collecting reliable site data is often where a project starts. Whether it is a habitat survey of moorland in North Yorkshire, a tree survey in urban Newcastle or a water quality survey in Lancashire, we recognise that the skill lies not merely in recording but in evaluating the significance of what we record.
Project: Stock Beck, Cumbria
Client: White Young Green for South Lakeland District Council

"As part of an environmental impact assessment for a proposed flood alleviation scheme, we spent a summer's evening on the outskirts of Kendal, recording pipestrelle bats emerge from under the eves of houses near to the proposed development area. Working with engineers from the Council, and our arboriculturalist, we were able to identify a preferred route for the new channel, which bypassed a stand of mature beech ".
